Makasutu Forest

Another early start to the day and a walk locally in The Makasutu forest to the Horse and Donkey sanctuary. We stopped on the way to pick up some new birds to add to a growing list. The highlights were a Bearded Barbet posing well in good light. This was followed on the way back to the lodge by close views of a male Pygmy Sunbird directly above our heads. Also a close look at some of the many disused termite mounds reveal some of the creatures that make use of these wonderful structures when the termites move on

Once back we enjoyed another full breakfast followed by some down time. Where we were able to watch and capture images of the Vervet Monkeys feeding on the crabs.

In the late afternoon we prepared to go out from the lodge for another walk  to a different part of the local area. Again we added a couple more species to the bird list including a close view of a Dark Chanting Goshawk perched in a lone tree and a pair of Viellot’s Barbets.
