Beavers, Birds & Big Cats
We are Carol and Alan De Witt, wildlife photographers based in Norfolk. We photograph the wildlife on our doorstep, from the winter wader flocks at Snettisham and the grey seals at Horsey to the reintroduced beavers at Sculthorpe Moor, and share what we learn about the places behind the images.

Further afield, our wildlife travels have taken us to jaguars in Brazil’s Pantanal, tigers and leopards in India, big cats in Africa, bears and wolves in Finland, and the Iberian lynx in Spain. Birds have been just as much a part of the journey. In the tropical Americas we have photographed tufted coquette, toucans and other rainforest species at the Asa Wright Centre in Trinidad, and resplendent quetzal across Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador, while the Pantanal brought hyacinth macaw and Jabiru storks alongside the jaguars. In India we have watched sarus cranes at Keoladeo National Park and along the River Chambal, and photographed greater adjutants at Guwahati. Closer to home, we follow seabirds at Bempton Cliffs and waders on the Norfolk coast. Wherever we go, we aim to document wildlife behaviour and the habitats these animals call home.
Each year, grey seal pups are born on the beach at Horsey from around November to January. Our Horsey seals post shares what we’ve seen there.
We also contribute images, videos and reports to conservation and wildlife projects, including our long-term monitoring of the beaver family at Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve. Through this work we help record and raise awareness of the species and habitats we are fortunate enough to observe.
