Nagarahole Tiger Reserve Day-4

Another early morning at the Kabini River Lodge. Day 4 started and everyone was excited for another safari in the park. We had good views of the Gaur just as we entered into the park. They were all resting beside the road. We decided to check the road where we had a sighting of the Tigress previously. As we drove behind another safari group, they kept on driving. Kaustubh asked our driver to stop, as he exclaimed TIGER!!

The Tigress sat very close to the road, and we were able to watch her for over 40 minutes, until more vehicles arrived. Then she got up and went into the forest. We also spent some  time watching birds like Bronze-winged Jacanas, Green Pigeons, Grey Junglefowl, and animals like Elephants, Wild Boar, and Sambar deer. Then we checked a few more areas, before we headed off to the lodge  for some breakfast.

Afternoon Drive

After another good breakfast and a chance to freshen up we relaxed before lunch. Afterwards we headed out for the afternoon safari, ready for whatever it would bring. The puddles from yesterday’s storm had dried and the air was now calm and warm again. Soon we saw something special—a mother elephant and her young calf drinking at a watering hole. We then spotted Giant Squirrels, more Gaur, and some playful mongooses, each adding to the lively scene of the park.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden light over the landscape, we had another lucky sighting. Deep in the woods, a Sloth Bear appeared, busy searching for termites. It was a great reminder of the park’s rich wildlife. We watched it for a short while and headed towards the gate as it was time for us to exit the park and return to the Kabini lodge. Later we met for a beer and then dinner before retiring to bed.
