Photography Workshop at Norfolk birding
This year my wife treated me to a day’s Photography Workshop at Norfolk birding. I felt that my efforts at trying to capture quality images needed some help. Despite really poor weather conditions I spent an excellent day working with Chris Mills of Norfolk Birding.
Itinerary for the day
The morning was spent looking at the camera’s basic settings. Up to this point I had relied on the cameras auto functions almost all the time. Totally ignoring the aperture and shutter settings. After an explanation of when and were to use these functions we move on to some practical work with the settings. Chris spent time looking at my website images. Immediately he spotted some areas that could be improved on.
After lunch the afternoon was spent at Cley, putting some of the new knowledge into practice. Unfortunately the light by this time had become very flat. Considering the conditions the resulting image of a lapwing was much better than many of my previous efforts. Chris suggested that to make further improvements in the images. I should before taken the shot spend time looking at the background, avoiding horizontal lines and try taking shots from lower angles. Also by shooting in RAW some more improvements in post production could be made.
This was an excellent day, which hopefully will improve the quality my photos. I would recommend it to anyone interested in photographing wildlife. Now I fully intend putting the new knowledge into practice over the next few weeks.
